Go to post office and get some of their box shipping tape. A guy online uses it and takes regular sheets of sand paper cuts them in 1 in strips and tapes them end for end and says they work great!!!

Just checked out youtube video and guy went to post office and purchased the fiberglass strapping tape. Ready Post band. He put butt jointed the sanding strips on the back side of belt and they held up really well. I know you can purchase almost any grade of belts but when it comes to 2000 and 3000 grit it may be hard to find.
