I do not have the 42" bag. I do not have the middle sized one either.

There is no question in my mind that cfm is reduced by insertion of the DD, but cannot say the small bag indicates that. More an audible indication.

Yes the main benefit is the 'pre' collection of most of the debris.

Yes the impeller is an undesirable target for large(heavy) debris etc..

For those two reasons alone I use the DD.

It also is convenient for use with a shop vac for other tasks elsewhere.

Realize I am accustomed to NO dust collection in the recent past, so any thing is an improvement.

My 'figure of merit' has to do with whether the hoses get clogged. They do not.

I have not tried it, but opening a second port seems a reasonable approach. I think the jointer and planer would be the most demanding application.

P.S. for floor cleanup, I prefer the DC3300 since heavy screws etc. will not be picked up(less static pressure).

I sucked up a BS cover knob with mine. Ordered a new impeller soon after that.

The Rockler Dust Right units are an excellent replacement for DC-3300 but it should be noted that, for the regular unit with bags, the regular bag is a 30 micron, the upgraded bag is 5 micron. You can buy the canister(which is 1 micron) but that costs an additional $199. CFM is double the DC-3300. The Rockler is probably noisier. The Laguna CFlux 1 does sound like one sweet unit!! Of course, it cost $1,100 bucks. Oh, well.

It was not the dust right that was on sale it was the super max. The specs came from the site.

Ah, ha! Missed that in my look at the Rockler site. Very nice price and good performance specs including noise. The 'flippable' motor implies that you could flip the motor over and put a 'preselector' (such as Thien barrel separator) underneath the motor - now you are talking! Still a bit too rich for my budget at the moment. I am looking hard at a Thien pre-selector for the DC-3300 at this moment.
