Moon, have you checked it out???

Post by reible »

This is one of those times when the moon is really close to the earth. Results in it looking 14% larger and up to 30% brighter.

If you were around in 1948 you might have seen it back then. If you can make it to 2034 it will happen again.

My brother messaged me "Was 13 gee I remember HA HA". Anyway if you get a chance take a look.

Looked like the moon to me. I believe I have seen rising moons that looked a lot bigger than normal.

I was not impressed with all the hype, only looks bigger when on the rise and you have a building or something to compare it with.

It always looks bigger on the rise(an atmospheric aberration).

It any event it was bigger than typical tonight and with the very clear sky it was noticeably brighter.

No, not an astounding difference, but it was there.

My opinion the moon has been a lot brighter. Pool water looks blue in bright sun and black at night. However in most full moons make it look blue also. But there have been times when the moon is so bright that the water is very blue. I checked last night and tonight and while the moon is almost overhead it seems not as bright. Very unscientific I know just an observation.

I went out and checked again, there is a very slight cloud cover but in a break the moon was not all that bright.

While I know everyone is saying it is bigger and brighter, it looks like a normal moon to me.

Ya, bunch of hype, unless an Astronomer, and then need a filter on your scope, actually we like to look at a quarter to half moons, shadow lines are better.
