What Have I Purchased from Shopsmith

Post by dusty »

Unless you are one who periodically orders from Shopsmith, this post will be of no interest to you.

If you are someone who purchases from Shopsmith, you may already know about this and this post will be of no interest to you.

However, I do purchase from Shopsmith on occasion and I found the information at this link to be very interesting and somewhat revealing about myself.

http://www.shopsmith.com/owner_pages/index.htm

When you click on the link it will take you to the Shopsmith Owners Page on the Shopsmith web site. On the left side of that page is still another link "Check Here For Order Status and History". Click on that at you get a listing of all that you have purchased from Shopsmith.

I transported all of that data into a spreadsheet so that I could sort and manipulate the information for my own purposes.

Click on an "Order Number" (which is a hyperlink to your actual order) and you see an image of the paper work you would have received from Shopsmith when your order arrived.

On this page, if there are any items printed in blue and underlined (another hyperlink), click on that and you are taken to the current on-line catalog.

I hope that this becomes helpful to some of you though I know that this is not new information for many of you.

If you are a member of the old school, I suggest that you browse the Shopsmith web site. There have been many changes made in the past few months. Some I really like and others I have to get use to.

That is a nice way to keep track of things, but like everything on the internet, they want a password, and there is no way I'm going to be able to keep track of a password for every site I visit on the net, so I can't get in to see anything.
Internet passwords suck if you try to keep track of it all. It is easier to just let it go and not worry about what I've ordered.

You used a password to get here on the Shopsmith web site. That same pass word gets you into the history page.

No that is incorrect. I have a forum password and it is not recognized as a login for Shopsmith, only for the forum. I have ordered several things from SS but usually do it as a guest because I didn't feel like having two passwords to keep up with for one site. I was on the forum prior to buying anything, maybe the forum allows transfer from one to the other, but SS doesn't accept forum login.

I would like to see that info, wonder if it tracks it back by owner info or only login info or address delivered to just curious, because this was my dads SS (passed in 2005) I got the house and shop when I moved in..I know he ordered a lot of stuff He is still listed as the owner, could be where the disconnect is, even now when I order anything from SS, regardless of how many times I put my name in, my cc info the system automatically puts his name in the order to so his name always pops up, so I have to believe it is by address that is the only common denominator. If it is would be very cool to see what he ordered in the past...

The good news is that I was just in the shop a few minutes ago. I looked around as I was working and I saw about $1500 worth of items I purchased from Shopsmith, so I don't need to check the site for my order history.

I am a Mac user, so don't know if Windows has equivalents, but would expect that it does. Mac comes with software that keeps track of passwords for you. There is other software that can be added that does the same thing. I, personally, have a paper list of usernames/passwords, but actually they are a backup in case I lose a hard drive, as the system software is tracking usernames/passwords which I can access if I need to.

Keeping track of passwords is easy on any computer no matter what OS you use, but it is also one of the biggest security risks you can expose yourself to. All a hacker needs to do it get into your computer and all your passwords are his. Do you really want to take that risk??????

Your Mac and everything else you own could easily belong to a hacker. Keep that information on paper.

That is not exactly correct. It is true only if you have never created an account on the SS web site. If you create a SS account log in you can use the same password as you use on the forum. Then when you log into the forum you will also be logged in to your SS account also.

Not if you use a third party password program. I use Roboform. It stores all my passwords and other things encrypted on a secure server. Plus with it on all three computers they are always in sync.

Do I really care if someone hacks my Shopsmith forum password? No!

What I protect is my financial site passwords. They are never stored on my computer or if they are in a encrypted file. I do not even allow my financial userids to be on the computer.
Also I turn off auto fill in all important sites, therefore you have to know both my userid and my password to get in.
