510 motor to 10 ER?

Post by shipwright »

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I'll ask anyway. I recently sold the jewellery box I posted a while back (http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewt ... 00#p194700) and the sale allowed me to finally pull the trigger on the PowerPro upgrade I've been putting off for a few years now.
My question is (and I admit I have done zero research) can I adapt the old Mark V motor to my 1951 10ER?
I'm betting it will be harder than it sounds.

Thanks

Paul

Since the Model 10 uses a POTS (plain off the shelf)
56 mount motor, and the V model uses a special motor,
I think it'd be easier to get a 1 (or larger) HP motor,
for the ER.

My brother recently put a 2 HP motor on one of
his ERs. Motor came from Harbor Fright.

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

Keep in mind the 510 motor is a 3450 rpm and the 10ER wants a 1725 rpm.

Yeah, I was kind of afraid it would be something simple like that. Thanks.
