I think that Shopsmith will keep the forum going for as long as they keep the front doors open. However, should it happen that the forum is no longer available - remember that there are other forums.

Sawmillcreek.org for example. They have a section there devoted to Shopsmith users. There isn't much traffic but if we found ourselves without a forum:eek: - we could change that.

If anyone tries to register there, know that it takes awhile. They screen all of their applicants. Sometimes it takes a week or two.

I'm a member of Sawmillcreek and I wasn't aware of a forum dedicated to SS. I looked for it today and I can find anything that appears to be a SS forum.
What is the name?

If Shopsmith pulls the plug on this forum, I would be willing to take it over.
That's provided they would be willing to provide a copy of the Vbulletin database.

I installed & managed a Vb forum for a few years.

There is a lot of information and experience here that it would be a shame if it was lost.

I am wrong. I do not find the Shopsmith "category" to be there. Maybe it never was - maybe I have it confused with a different forum. I'll surf some today and see if I can find what I was referring to.

IMHO, any forum where we could congregate would be satisfactory.

Let me make one thing clear though. I will not leave this forum and do not propose that anyone else does. I am just looking for a roosting place should the doors get locked here.

Rick, my wife and I attended your traveling academy class here in Southern California almost 3 years ago. We enjoyed your class and benefited from your instruction. In fact, we had lunch with you each day. I am really sorry that a slow economy has interrupted the academy and your livelyhood. Good luck to you and hope to see you again some day.

That's my thinking as well. Only those that know of and have a Shopsmith are going to be their customers.

And at that, if you don't order from them frequently, they drop you from their e-mail list. Been through that one several times with them. Not like they're paying postage on an e-mail to customers.

I don't see this as a path to successful survival. A great product that no one knows about just doesn't become popular. You can't sell products if no one knows you have them.

I must agree, it is truly a sad day for all of us. I attended 3 of Rick's T/A's. One in Sacramento, one in Medford, Or., and one in Ashland, Or. At all 3 of these I learned something and also at all 3 I came home with a long list of items ordered. Rick always had a very energetic atmosphere and great information to relay to all of us. i know I would have attended a T/A whenever it would have been in my area.
So Rick it with great regret that you are having to leave SS and we will not be able to prevail upon your knowledge.
If you are ever in the Eureka, Ca. area contact me. I would buy you lunch or dinner and ask a few question about my Shopsmith. And yes Rick I do have a Jointtech unit for my Shopsmith.

I'm still learning how to use SS, after two years w/SS, and 40 years of woodworking. 520 really responds to procedures from Sawdust Sessions, TA classes, and forum answers. Keep it up, and find new ways to distribute the the techniques and experience.
