Trying to remember the term so I can look up a post here

It had a video with a guy turning this hunk of a branch into a vase sort of thing, very rustic and interesting. I had it book marked I thought but no luck in that search either.

Anyone recall the name of those turnings? Or recall the post and something else about so I can find it?

Yes that is the post I was looking for. Tried a few things but not the right ones.

Interesting how things come around. Back on 09 Dec 2007 I explained to the forum how to use the google search to find things, we had only about 3000 members at the time so a lot of people who are here now will not have seen it. Of course it is in the "old" forum context but still.....

(Got a branch to cut off and I wanted to refresh my memory on how this twig pot thing should be done, not that I'm going to do it that same way, more then likely I'll be turning with easywood tools. If things work out I'll post some pictures.)

I had posted much later, a PDF on how to do the same on Aug 27, 2015. Dusty remembered your earlier post and pointed it out to me. Dusty has a phenominal mind for detail, and a memory that I can only envy.

I think the issue here in the forum has to do with the feature set the search engine uses, combined with the age of the software itself. I think the Admin has to generate some high topic search metrics from recent searches for trending topics and that is used by the software to seed the Forum search engine.

My understanding is that an upgraded Forum software is available, but costly to aquire, and even more costly to implement. Hard to justify those expenditures which would have to come directly out of profits.

Many folks who have never run a business end of a business don't readily see how many thousands of dollars in sales to generate the bottom line profit to cover a $2 new expense. It is often $150 - $200 business in new sales to generate that revenue after all costs of goods, including freight, overhead, labor, taxes, and other expenses are covered. In the present economy, it may take a bit more. That can really be a consideration when looking at a new venture, an expansion, borrowing money to upgrade for any business. I don't know dollar amount that's what Shopsmith would have to invest to upgrade, and convert, but whatever it is, it would be a direct cost to bottom line profit

The $15 an hour for minimum wage for some folks who hire predominantly entry level workers who move in and out frequently, has to be a scary proposition to profits. Some in government seem oblivious to the fact that if a business cannot make a profit, they aren't going to be paying taxes on those profits and will eventually have to reduce staff, automate or go off-shore to survive. When a corporation with stock holders world wide is involved, they could not care less in China or elsewhere about those issues, as their investment in our stock was to produce profit which they will take out of our country already.

Stockholders drive a good bit of that directive, and increasingly they are foreign investors, who actually have money to invest that we as a population don't. They have no qualms about moving.

Shopsmith in my mind deserves and award for toughing it out, staying in business, and staying in America in my mind. Where would we be today without them?

Not a hit, mom has a neighbor that is 70, he came over from Italy as a youngen, his first name is Luciano, call him Lu and you get a nice, kind, lecture and story about wanting to be called Luciano. He is a really nice, meek and soft spoken man, just dont call him Lu.
