There is a fellow here in my community that wears the kilt. 
His are not plaid but rather a kind of natural tan color very heavy canvas with a good bit of leather and metal trim. His outfit puts you in mind of something made by Carhartt for very heavy use. The first impact is made even more striking by the obvious fact that this guy borders on being a giant... 
I doubt that he is ever challenged for wearing the kilt. I usually bump into him at a favored local Chinese buffet. Now that I think about it I don't think I have seen him at all since the weather turned cold, at least not in a kilt. 
In spite of my own Scottish ancestry I have never been drawn toward wearing a kilt.

These were featured on some HGTV show a few years ago ... I think it was cool tools

They make heavy canvas kilts with pockets etc and they made it very clear that there is a modesty snap in case you need to climb a ladder.

Greenie, Grayling, SS stand alone BS and BS SPT, jointer and belt sander, 3 Ers with Speed Changers. I think those 3 cover my ER needs, and space for them.

It was definitely not a kilt. It was a very flimsy material. Definitely not the construction type kilt I've seen on tv. It flowed as he sashayed.

I mentioned my Scottish ancestry but it was really fairly short term for my branch of Robinsons. The earliest I know of for that line we were Norse Vikings known as Clan Gunn. One of which inherited lands in the Scottish Highlands and they were there a few hundred years and when surnames came into use my ancestor (Robin of Clan Gunn) adopted Robinson for his son Edmund born in 1495 at Glasgow Scotland and died at Yorkshire England in 1573.
You can Google George Gunn and the 500 year feud with Clan Keith.
My line moved into Northern England in the Yorkshire area (Cleasby). They were active in affairs of the Crown (right or wrong) and my 6th great grandfather (Christopher) came to what is now Virginia in 1666. One of his brothers, John, stayed in England and became the Bishop of London.
Before Norway I don't have a clue but I would suspect pretty much out of a cave somewhere...
I don't want to wear a helmet with horns on it either.
