SS Mark VII for sale in Kansas City area

Post by bobgroh »

I just looked at a Shopsmith for sale here in Blue Springs, Missouri that was listed on Craig's List. Turned out the SS was a Mark VII and totally not what I needed, wanted or had room for. So I am passing along the information in case someone else might be interested. Take a look in Craig's List for Kansas City, Missouri (search for 'smith') -

The owner seems truly eager to get rid of the SS (and the Delta saw also) and I encouraged him to consider just taking good ol' US dollars rather than asking for a trade (like he is now).

The ad referenced does have a several pictures. Some of my observations: the jointer is missing the fence but is otherwise in good shape - the table moves nicely and the head spins freely. The saw blade mandrel is stuck on the shaft and when we attempted to 'bang' on the blade the shaft started to come out of the holder (not good!). We plugged the SS in - it tried to run but was very slow and quickly blew the breaker - so we left that alone. No sanding disk, saw guards, etc. No fence. I'm sure you'll have to pick this up.

It was my impression that the owner is quite eager to get it out of the house. So if you are interested, give him a call. I still need to find a good jointer and a Mark V I can turn into a shorty!

The sellers quote "..runs very well" must mean you run very well to reset the circuit breaker that trips when you turn the SS on. As described in the ad and what is actually there is a classic "Buying a pig in a poke." Thanks to you for putting a little truth into what is actually for sale.
