Mark V: Can the Bases Be Swapped During Assembly?

So it is confirmed. I have the 510 table. The angle adjustment lever is reversible, but I give up the pointer which shows the angle on the dial. There is an angle dial on the other side, but it does have attachment points for the pointer unless I drill and tap myself. I don't consider this to be a big deal since I use an digital angle gauge anyway when doing fine work. Otherwise, the 90 degree spring loaded stop can still be used, albeit from the other side.

As soon as I spin the upright tubes by 180, the table will be functional for feeding shaper from below.

One thing I haven't considered is whether or not the saw will still be functional for cuts where the stock is larger because of the frame on the other side.

However, the height adjustment wheel is adjustable to the opposite side, so a far simpler approach would be to install the carriage opposite and swap the wheel to the other side. Problem solved.

The angle index/vernier scale can easily be mounted on the opposite end of the trunion. The tapped hole location is not critical since the 'scale' has large holes than allow for calibration.

I think you have the will to make this work.

The issue with the 510 table is the bracket that holds the two posts for the table together. The plastic can be removed, but the bracket remains.

Are you referring to the trunion bar?

I think the side by side drawings I made for the carriages and tables may help visualize things that can be swapped side to side

Everybody seems to be overlooking the obvious... Acquire (inexpensively) an old Mark VII table and carriage and just use them in a normal manner.
Miter gauge should be fine but you will need the Mark VII fence.

Yes, I am referring to the trunion, but I didn't know the term.

I have yet to find any decent price on a Mark 7 table. I have found a couple 500 and 510 tables which could be converted for my purposes.

As originally indicated in my first post, funds are limited. I was merely trying to determine if an alternative solution existed, without buying anything, by employing the equipment in a different manner. It seems that it will, but a better solution will be to find an inexpensive table and turn the tubes 180.

Nothing that I have read would prevent me from believing that swapping the bases would be an issue and would only result in the loss of the drill press function.

An additional question: will a 500 table fit onto the 510 carriage?
