I guess I also need to check the clearance to the tubes when the table is sitting at 90 degrees in the reverse position. If I can't get the table centered over the headstock, that idea may not work either.

Thanks. Here's a picture of one of the more recent builds. This is a 6-string bass I made, featuring a spalted maple top over swamp ash.

It isn't the best picture and doesn't do the grain justice. This is a hand oiled finish. There is more quilting than the picture may indicate.

Thanks. I recently added a synth pickup. At least this picture gives you a better idea of the grain. This bass features separate volume controls for each pickup, active/passive push/pull, bass/treble, mid volume/frequency sweep and a piezo volume on the push/pull knob. The piezo pickup is under the bridge. Now, with the synth pickup, it supports more different tones and sounds than should be allowed. (laughing)

The trunion is bolted to the table off center so the table is not centered on the head stock in either direction. What needs to be centered with the head stock is the table insert. Since the trunion is bolted to the table centered on the insert it does not matter which way the table is turned. There is an issue when you go back to horizontal mode if you only have one table. The main table top is still backwards. A saw blade or sanding disk will still work since the table insert is centered on the head stock in either direction but the rip fence lock is on the back side and you will also have to reverse the fixed and floating aux tables if you use them so they all align.

I think there is an easy fix for the above issue. Reverse the table tubes as discussed. Then instead of just turning the whole assembly 180* unbolt the table top from the trunion. Then just rotate the trunion and bolt the top back on in its original orientation. I don't see why that would not work but I might have over looked something.

I've been reading a lot over the past 10 years or so, but finally have a question I can't find the answer for.

Q: Can the bases of the 510 model be swapped, end-for-end? (This will allow me to configure the SS to tilt for use as a router table vs. from above on the Mark V) I do understand that this means the locking pin will be on the opposite side of the SS.

With a lot of my projects, I find that having an under shaper/router is much more advantageous than working from an overhead position. All functions would carry the same operation, only the tilt mechanism will tilt to the left vs. the right.

Being on a budget, I can't swing the $400+ to order the double tilt system features on the Mark 7 and I already have a separate drill press I use regularly. I figured I would ask the question first before I attempt to disassemble, only to find that there may be something that may prevent me from doing this.

I am not certain that I understand your objective. If you had a double tilt and did nothing else to the machine would you have what to want. If so, you can achieve that by simply replacing your Headrest with a Base Arm Assembly. A Mark V Model 510 with two Base Arm Assemblies and no Headrest can be tilted both ways.

I have done this. It worked well for table saw and drill press modes. I don't think that it will make an under the table router configuration though.

Even with a second carriage and table and Base Arm Assembly, it can be had on ebay for a lot less than the cost of a double tilt conversion.
