Man plans, God laughs or the man’s wife says, “I’ll go with you.”

Wednesday I planned to wash two cars after running some errands that would take about 1.5 hours at most. Wife wanted to know where I planned to go and I gave her a list of five places. She said, “Wait, I’ll go with you; I need something from Target.” Target is across the street from Petco, one of my planned stops. One hour and twenty minutes of my allotted time was used up in that first stop. Five minutes to Petco, five minutes in the store and times up. Then she said she needed to go back home but on the way she wanted to stop by the grocery store to get some potatoes. I think for women, shopping is an endurance sport. We exited the store just before 2:00 3.5 hours after she decided to go with me and I have completed only one task. Both cars still need to be washed.

That's why I try to slip off when my wife's not looking.

My rule of thumb is that everything outside of the house takes a minimum of three hours. You're right in range.

My wife is a farm wife... I usually just say "Why don't you run that thing through the car wash while you are out".

She has spent much of the last 50+ years running errands for me, chasing tractor and machinery parts so I could keep running. Also handling hay, feeding critters, hauling firewood (I won't let her cut and would rather she didn't split it), occasionally driving a farm truck load of grain, raising chickens, building fence, hauling fuel, seed, fertilizer and pesticides etc... and a whole lot more... Did I mention that she was also operating our store much of that time?
Washing a car was just something that happened between real errands.

I should have mentioned that during those years she also had to put up with me...
She also had 4 kids then provided full time day care for a grandson for about 8 years.
When her mother (very nice lady) had to give up her apartment she came to live with us for 3 years. She was legally blind, nearly deaf and could only walk with a walker. After she had to move to a nursing home Diana visited with her at least once each week and spent an afternoon with her. Some weeks it was 2 or 3 times a week. Diana was from a family of 8 kids but most of them never visited at all and a couple only rarely.
During those years my mother was getting into the worst years of Alzheimer's. Diana spent a zillion hours looking after her (constant checking, running errands, helping her deal with stuff etc.) until she had to move into assisted living and then she continued to run her errands and we both visited regularly. Brain cancer took her mom and the Alzheimer's finally finished mine.
We have both been through a series of health problems in recent years (like most folks our age that are still alive ) and at times we can't be entirely sure which one of us is looking after the other. Sometimes we just lean together and who ever can get up from the floor helps the other one up.
She needs knee surgery but the surgeon doesn't want to do it since she is Factor V Leiden mutation positive and it's too risky.

I married her over my parents initial objection but it was the best decision I ever made.
