PowerPro Upgrade Question
Has anyone Purchased the refurbished PowerPro headstock upgrade? I am thinking about either the refurbished or the New Headstock and was wondering what are the differences.

Re: PowerPro Upgrade Question
The 'obvious' answer is new vs refurbished.
I would think the refurbished one would have an 'old' quill advance, way tube lock and casting.
Pretty much the same as DIY except you you do not end up with the old motor, quill, drive sleeve and bearings.

Re: PowerPro Upgrade Question
From the Description the Refurbished:
Owners selecting the Refurbished Upgrade Option will receive a fully refurbished (Gray) Mark V headstock, complete with the new PowerPro motor, all electronic circuitry and digital control panel. It will also include a two-bearing quill and upper drive sleeve with new bearings; new poly-v belts and a new power cord. The headstock wedge locks, quill feed mechanism and headstock casting will be evaluated and reconditioned, as necessary.
I was wondering if anyone has purchased this option and wanted their opinions..
Ultimately my question is the Refurbished headstock worth the savings of about $180 roughly.

Re: PowerPro Upgrade Question
I would just buy new. It is not a big savings in the scheme of things and you will know what you are starting with. I did the upgrade myself and it was pretty easy.
Re: PowerPro Upgrade Question
I bought new and kept the old headstock as a spare. The spare has been used a few times and is now out again as I repair a friend's conventional headstock.

Re: PowerPro Upgrade Question
With the refurbished option, you're getting what you would get if you bought the do it yourself package, except the work's done for you.
I went the DIY route myself, and it wasn't all that hard...but in retrospect, if I were doing it again I would go with either a refurbished headstock or a new one.

Re: PowerPro Upgrade Question
I have thought of doing the diy but wanted to keep my current headstock like you Bill. I plan on making a shop deputy or Shorty on a cabinet for sanding station I am leaning towards new, but wanted to find out if anyone had purchased the refurbished option.
