I did find Doug's videos and noted that he used the aux table by clamping the guide down to sharpen the round nose chisel. The way I see it you just to sharpen on the DOWNWARD of the disc.

I would think when using either table (main, left aux, right aux) that abrasive moving towards the support(table) is always needed.

The strip sander jig is a different animal.

I haven't used mine in a good number of years now. Once you have better ways it hard to go back.
