Touch up paint for black tables

Post by jms »

Anyone have any experience using the black touch up paint to completely repaint the black tables? Not only the sides, but what about the grooves?

Option #1 Take steel wool or scotch brite scuff the edges and the grooves of the table. Spray the entire table with a rattle can. Then go back with a razor blade and remove the paint off the top of the ridges.

Option #2 You can use bulldog (adhesive promoter) then paint the entire table with a rattle can. Then go back with a razor blade and take the paint off the top of the ridges. The bulldog will make the paint stick very well. You may need to sand the paint off if the razor don't take it off.

Option #3 You can do the first step in either of the first 2 options. But mask off the top of the ridges with masking tape. Should be fairly easy to follow the edge of the ridges with a x-acto blade to trim the tape.

Thanks woodchuck, as you mention there are a few ways to approach this.

Razor blade would be tough because the flats of the black extension table tops are not smooth, they have a fairly pronounced "grain" to them when the original surfacing was done, actually much more so than my "gray" painted extension tables. My black main table on the other hand, has a much much smoother finish to the aluminum flat areas on the top.

I guess I'm really curious if anyone has used the black touch up paint and can speak to it's quality, durability, and match to the original table paint.
