Theory is good. All of these ideas are good. Problem is we are lacking performance. Until that is done we'll not know if we have met with success or not.

Don't crack the casting!

I was discussing with my travel partner and came up with the portapower but don't own one, niether does he.
Then I came up with a Bottle jack, properly supported with wood to keep the piston off the castings. And maybe I'll belicky and 3 days of soaking in JB Blaster will ake 3 pages of posts moot!

It looks like the posts of your tailstock go below the base arm casting.Don't think I ever saw any go that low.

They protrude about 1/8" with the stop collar snug against the tail stock casting. As is so often the case, I can not declare this to be "normal"; only that all of them that I have are the same.

In operation, you probably cannot see the legs protrude because the tail stock and stop collar have been adjusted.

Getting the tail stock off is only half way to success. Understanding why it is frozen in place is the other half.

Back Home. Tried the rubber hammer again, Up and down; no movement. Sprayed move JB. Tried a little pressure with a Bottle jack and no movement. I'm thinking I am going to have disassemble the thing and press out from the bottom. Does anybody know what holds this pin in place? Does it just drift out?

Yes IF you first remove the tension pin that retains it. The pin is removed by driving it INTO the base. There is an exit hole inside the base(it will drop out onto the floor).

The pin may be on either the front or back of the side facing the headstock.

I assume by tension pin you mean a roll Pin? I don't see it or where it could be.
