Shipping weight of Mark V unit

Looking for the approximate shipping weight of a Mark V unit with the following accessories
Bandsaw
Planer
tablesaw

My unit is 17 yrs old still going strong, but now I have to move from Hawaii back to Washington state, and need the approx weight for my shipping company....way to heavy to weigh on a bathroom scale!!!

Welcome, and you might try looking up on the Shopsmith Products pages the weights of some of the accessories. The weight will be more if on separate stand with separate motor, but for instance the current 11" bandsaw supposedly weighs 45 lbs. The planer can vary from 61 lbs (Mark V Mounted) to 151 lbs (ProPlaner). For the basic Mark V, try using a bathroom scale. Put one end on the scale (may need a 2 x 4 or 4 x 4 on scale first to span width of leg), with headstock and table about in the middle of the way tubes, then double your reading. To make it easier to lift onto scale, start with table removed and slide headstock to far end away from end you want to lift.

All of the smaller parts, like sanding disks, saw blades, etc., put in box or tub and weigh all at once on scales.

Place br scale under one set of legs. Record scale reading. Move to opposite end. Repeat. Add the two readings.

I recommend packing tables etc. separately.

IMHO, I would remove the legs and any attachments. The bench tubes may fit on the bathroom scale. If not, then a couple of boards, weigh them and that amount deduct from the weight of the SS. Then I would add the legs back on top of the way tubes and weigh the whole machine without attachments. If you wish to pack saw blades, sanding disks, drill bits and other small parts in this same box, load them onto the legs as they lie on the bench tubes. Just remember to deduct the weight of any additional wood or apparatus that you use to stabilize the SS on the scale. I wish you success on your return to CONUS.
