Ran my 12" planer off my 10er

I was playing around in the shop, been thinking about a new motor for the 10er but haven't been able to commit.

Both my mark v's are down with headstock issues so I have a nicer planer collecting dust.

I bought the spt adapter from mkc tools awhile ago and have been using it semi-regularly with my bandsaw. I had an inspiration today and noticed my workmate was close to the right height to put the planer on ...all i needed to use was a 1/2" shim under the planer to get the right height to line it up with the spt adapter on the headstock. I just used a few pony clamps to lock the planer from moving around, set the speed changer to 3, maybe a hair more , and I was planing.

I planed some reclaimed old growth pine from the barn and some newer pine from the scrap pile. Seems like 3/8" of a turn is all I can get out of it at a time on a 9" wide pine board ..which is a bit less than 1/32". I planed a chunk of 3/4" pine down to 1/2" , a bit slow but not too awful bad considering a 1/2 hp motor.

Speed changer did feel a bit warm after the planing...something to watch.
