I got this at my favorite hard ware store ,, harbor freight

It has worked very well , set the SS in the drill press mode ,,,,,,attach this to the table, you now have a very accurate machine that will unleash your fullest milling potential.

I have used this for several different projects including mortise and tenons in the horizontal mode.

If I were to use this every day i would have spent the fun tickets on a better brand that was better calibrated ,, but this one serves me well.

Yes ,,,very well,,, Like I was saying the graduations are not the best but if you use lay out lines it isnt a issue.

I've used one with my 520 also. Given the limits of the set up,it worked okay for occasional use.
For those with a SS Overarm Pin Router, these vises can turn it into a workable hobby mill. I found it a much better set up than the 520.
The Porter Cable 690 I have in mine, takes a 3/8 inch collet for end mills. It's not ideal, but I've done a few things in 7075 aluminum with good results.

I purchased a cheap vise via the internet and spent a day trying to get the thing adjusted. Sounds like the HF is a better solution. The vise I purchased was so loose it was almost unusable.

I've read that using a drill press to mill is a very bad idea, safety-wise, as the drill press chuck is not designed to take side loads without coming off.

Does this concern apply to the SS?

Use the router bit chucks.

I do not think you have to worry about the chuck 'coming off', but the three jaws of the drill chuck will not resist side thrust very well. The bit might loosen.

I am not suggesting using the SS on metal ,,,, not sure the SS was designed with that in mind,??

I have only used it on wood ,,,,also like said using router bits ,,,,,, shouldn't be be any difference in the force on the quill then using the SS as a lathe ?

Personally I don't feel using the chuck would be a issue , but you should use the router collar , you don't take much stock off at a time so there isnt a lot of force on it .
