So...what is the "Sprayer" the SS plate mentions, instead of a Jig Saw?

Also...what is the name of the ring-like chuck thingy that goes over the spindle on the two left spindles? That allows you to use the plastic spacer bar (for lack of a better term) to power accessories? And are they two different sizes? Looks like it on my 50th.

I think you are referring to the safety ring that surrounds the auxiliary spindle shafts, present on later machines, or do you mean the drive hubs? see http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/cata ... oupler.htm

It was the hubs I was talking about. My "new" SS didn't come with any. Just the bare spindle shaft.

However, I noticed the silver-ish ridged ring on the right side spindle...the allen screw hole is filled in. WTF? Is very weird. I'll try to get a pic.

No picture needed. It is filled so as to prevent one from inadvertently loosening it's set screw. There are two others, the one securing the quill feed on the back side and the one directly on top. They can be dug out when it becomes necessary to remove/adjust them.

Then look at some of the exploded part views at the bottom of that post. It will help you visualize whats inside.

That, coupled with browsing those threads should answer volumes of questions for you.

So, another question if you don't mind. And this goes for both of mine.

Watched a SS video on how to do the maintenance and lubrication. One step he said to do was "remove the dust cover" but, he was using a cut-away model (for demo purposes) and never showed HOW to remove the cover?

So...how does one do that?

The Dust Cover is a cover for the machine when not in use.

The implication was a subtle reference to buy one if you didn't have one.

For years they were optional and didn't come with the machines.

The inspection hole on the back side is removed or rotates up after removing a lower screw based on the machine vintage.

OH...well, now, that makes sense.

So...how the heck do you open up the chassis of the headstock to get to all this stuff inside? I'm reading the "Buying a Used Shopsmith v2 document" now. Haven't come across that yet.

Lots of info on what is inside...but not how to get to it.

Just finished reading it. If I am understanding correctly, the only access port is the "logo" disc on the backside? That's the one to use to make sure the machine is lubricated, yes?

For lubricating the control sheave, yes.

To lubricate the floating sheave(on motor shaft) the belt cover is removed. Way back, a hole was included in he belt cover, but, effectively oiling the floating sheave was unlikely using that approach.

BTW get a zoom spout oiler.
