I think we need a bit more information. First, how do you define a "perfect oval shape". How large and what tools do you have would help.

If this is what you are talking about .
If you are brave ,,,,and safe,,,,, you can do it on a lathe,,,, but most folks I know that have done this said they would prefer not to repeat the project unless it was on some thing rather small.
I believe it also has to be done at a very slow speed
My self i would rout / chisel the center out then cut the oval on a band saw and sand.
then again I am not in to the whole adrenaline thing.
