Adding attachments to PMs?
I don't Private Message (PM) much, but the few times that I have, I have been unable to attach pictures to a PM. I am aware of the size limits for adding pictures to a regular post in a thread, and picture I am trying to attach to a PM is well within those limits. The error message I am getting is that "jpg extension is not allowed". Seems like I have gotten a similar message when I try to attach a pdf file. Are there any types of attachments that are allowed when sending a PM? Or is that not an option at all, even though the "buttons" for adding attachments are on the PM page?

Re: Adding attachments to PMs?
I have never successfully attached anything to a PM. I believe it simply is not an included function. That is why we need to 'send' e-mail address info via the pm and send things by e-mail.

Re: Adding attachments to PMs?
UPDATE: Since starting this thread, and sending an email to Shopsmith's webmaster with the same question, I have successfully been able to add an attachment to a private message. In one PM, a jpg was attached, and in another, a pdf file. Only one attachment is possible per PM. Thanks to Admin and/or webmaster if you had any part in making the adding of an attachment possible.

Re: Adding attachments to PMs?
Dusty, no secret of which I am aware. For me and the Shopsmith Board Profile that I use, the link for "Upload attachment" looks, appears, and functions pretty the same as when posting to a thread. If you are trying to do a reply to PM and the original message had an attachment, then it appears that the attachment is not automatically included in the PM reply (only the name of the previous attachment will appear). I am what IT folks call an end user ... don't understand the magic behind computers and programming. For example, in my regular email, if I insert pictures in a message, and someone replies, the picture is usually included in the reply, but not always, especially if the reply is from a smartphone. If I attach a picture as an attachment in my regular email, the attachment is usually not included in any replies, because that is usually the default setting for handling replies. I think in regular email there may be an option to include attachments in replies, but with PMs I don't think there is even an option.
Re: Adding attachments to PMs?
I just tried to send br549 a PM with a picture and it worked. He got it just fine. Previously if you tried to attach something the forum would come back with an error "type JPG not allowed" or "type PDF not allowed" when you hit the send button. It works fine now so admin must have fixed something.dusty wrote:details, please. That would be how one enables it.jsburger wrote:Or "turned on".JPG wrote:I think the appropriate word is 'enabled'.jsburger wrote:
