Why does Shopsmith delete some Sawdust sessions?

Post by dynabase »

I noticed Shopsmith has pulled some of the Sawdust sessions videos. Why would they do that? In particular one video on sharpening planer and jointer blades is no longer available. Why? They still sell those products. I have also noticed other videos are no longer available for no apparent reason. Did they do the same thing on the DVDs or do the DVDs have all of the videos?

Strange as it sounds, I believe there was an incompatibility problem when 'something' was updated.

So is this an old issue or a new one and can it be fixed?

Too bad. Nothing should be lost.

As I recall, most of the videos were and are hosted on Youtube but some were hosted on a different service (I think it was Blip), At some point after Shopsmith's restructure/downsizing the other video hosting service ceased operation.

They did send out notification and give several months warning but as the person(s), (probably Drew or Nick), who had set up the account were no longer with Shopsmith, the notification did not get though, and those videos were lost.

I remember watching that video after they both left so it was available from somewhere. Does anyone have the DVDs? Is it on there? What do the DVDs have that is not on this site? This is not the only one that is missing. I wasn't counting when I went through the videos but I believe at least 6 were no longer available.

Nick made a point of telling us that the videos were copyrighted and that we should not record them. I did not or I would have a copy. They had some difficulty with the recorded versions and were never able to finalize them; thus some may have been seen only once. Nick was the drivingfactor and without Nick the project came to an abrupt end.

Yes, they were available on Blip until that service shutdown in 2014. Some of them were then re-hosted on YouTube but others did not have a backup that could be located and were lost. Here is a link to the thread from when it originally happened. http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/commu ... 14860.html

I wish Shopsmith would edit their website to remove the links to these defunct pages. You can see this on the product catalog pages as well. One can see a link to several products that when you click on the link you're taken to a page that simply says "This product is no longer available."

It's annoying and frustrating. If they no longer carry the product, then why keep the links? The same is true for the sawdust sessions and other videos. If a video is missing, why keep the link to it?
