SHOP SMITH BAND SAW DECAL

Does any one have the large shop smith decal on the band saw front? I can't find one and don't have skills to duplicate one. It looks a lot better when the decal is crisp and clear.

Don't have one (a decal or a bandsaw), but in looking at pictures of new bandsaws it doesn't look like it would be too hard to reproduce. If you or anyone else can give me some basic dimensions such as the OD of the outer circle and outside dimensions and width of the line of the rectangle around the logo, I could finish this up (this is a low resolution version, not suitable for reproduction). I found a good source for silver polyester copy stock also, if that's what the background is.

The outer circle is 2 1/2 inches. The length and height are Length 6 1/4 and he Height is 4 3/4. Actually the length and height dimensions are the size where the decal is pasted. The actual label is just a little smaller.

A second mock-up with dimensions. If overall space for decal is 6.25" x 4.75", is overall size of decal itself OK at 6" x 4.5"? That would leave 1/8" margin at all 4 sides.

Please verify I got the correct size for outer circle at 2.5" OD.

Also, can you please verify dimensions A, B, C, and radius R?

Again, this is low resolution not suitable for reproduction, and I'll fine tune radiused corners after I know radius ... right now they are just "freehand".

That link brings up a high quality logo which you can use for your own personal projects but not for commercial stuff.

Thanks Ed for your suggestions and links. It's up to woodmeister how he wants to proceed, but since I volunteered to reproduce the original decal as closely as possible, I have gone ahead and wrapped it up. The pictures in your previous post where you showed the existing decal was enough for me to figure out the missing dimensions (I think). I skewed your photo back to original size and came up with 3/8" from edge to rectangle, and 3/8" radius for corners. For the main logo itself, I had first scanned a logo from my Power Tool Wookworking Self-Study Course, then I scanned the logo from my DC3300. Both came out pretty good, but needed a lot of cleaning up. Using the TIFF file you provided a link to was better than I could have ever done, so I went with it instead. Even though the original decal may not have had the slight shadow effect, I think it looks good.

For label material, I found OnlineLabels.com as a source. For small quantities, they will even let you request samples, free of charge. I recommend their OL177SP (Weatherproof/Waterproof Silver Polyester) if you want the background to be semi-glossy silver, or their OL177LP if you want a slighly glossy white background. These label materials must be run thru a laser type printer. A good copy shop should be able to run them for you at minimal cost. I suggest getting a couple of extra sheets in case of mis-feeds or jams.

EDIT: Based on review and comments by woodmeister, I have made some minor adjustments to width and location of red border, radius dimensions of corners, and added a trim line. The trim line should result in a decal 6 1/8" x 4 5/8", leaving 1/16" between edge of decal and the 6 1/4" x 4 3/4" recessed area on a band saw cover on all 4 sides. I also included a second decal so that 2 can be printed on one page (just in case of a mistake when printing, trimming, peeling, or applying.) When printing, choose "actual size". And, in order to get file size just under 2 MB, had to reduce from 600 dpi to 500 dpi. Thanks to woodmeister for your patience and giving me the oppotunity to practice and improve my Photoshop skills.

Hi,
I have received your PMs but apparently your not getting mine.
I sent you two the first one applauding you for the great job and thanking you for your time and effort.
I am thinking the color is correct but I am color blind so maybe others could help us out on proper color.
The second one I asked if you could turn the decal around so I could get 2 decals on one page and not waste the photo paper. You sent some practice templates in the beginning with two on a page I believe. If you would do it I think you will many of us happy.

Tom, thanks for bringing this back to the main forum, as like you said, for some reason I am not receiving your PMs.

Attached is the logo with grey added to the background. I've included two again so if the color is correct, and anyone wants to print it out, you can get two on one sheet of label material.

To get the grey color, I used a photograph from the Shopsmith website of a new bandsaw, and copied the color from the decal in that picture. As anyone who has ever tried to match a color knows, cameras, lighting, reflection, etc all affect the way the color looks. Since I don't have a bandsaw, this is my best guess as to the color. I can change it if anyone can give me a good color image of their decal that I can match, or an even better way, may be to cross reference the color to some paint color chip such as Sherwin-Williams, Glidden, etc.

Sorry I didn't include the grey background the first time around ... I had not noticed that the name "Shopsmith" was white, not grey, so my thinking was that the grey background would be the label material itself and that everything that wasn't red would be grey. Now that I see the difference, a white label material would be best, to keep the "Shopsmith" name portion white.
