There's a stop that's part of the endplate casting, located in the bench tube holes. The bench tubes should be right up against this stop.

Put an extension table on each end of the Mark. Lay down on the floor at look up into the castings. The extension tubes should just barely pass by the ends of the Bench Tubes.

If this is a standard Mark (tubes are original length) the exposed Way Tubes between the castings should measure between 48" and 48 1/2". The Way Tube exposure between the castings should be precisely the same for both tubes.

If I had your task, I would pull the headstock and carriage before going any further. Then with those removed what remains is much easier to work with.

I think if you do as dusty says and measure you will find that your distance is different then it should be and the legs are now tipped.

We recently had a user with a similar problem and his pictures clearly showed the issue. These are two of the pictures that might show the issue you are seeing:

The second one show the tilt that can occurs when the tubes are not installed correctly.

Please get this corrected before using the machine or moving it about as damage can occur if left in the current state.

Thank you it makes sense. I sold it today and will pass it onto the new owner. It was not tipped as much as in picture but it must have been to some degree.
