So now a plain old round knob with a long screw for the set screw that also holds a 'lever' to the knob?

Yup, I'm already on the hunt for a knob that'll work!

I do have one question about the cam. It seems to be thicker than the gap between the clutch plate and the worm wheel. I could manually move the clutch plate down and make it fit, but that would make putting the cover back on troublesome. I haven't had a lot of time today to look into it, but maybe there's a way to adjust the gap.

Pull the clutch plate down and rotate the gear so that the pins are out of the low portion of the second gear. The cam high lobe raises the pin out of the low portion. When rotated to low lobe, the pins 'drop' into the low portion when the gear is rotated. That is not too clear, but I think you will figger it out.

I know exactly what you're talking about. However, in doing that the cam is "squeezed" in between the two plates. If that's correct, then do I have to take the cam's handle off every time I want to take the cover off?

With the pins out of the 'notch' the cam should clear the narrow lobe(IIRC). When installed, the cam is pinched when the pins drop into the notch. The high lobe should raise the pins sufficiently to clear the notched gear(cam still 'pinched'). It has been a while since I installed the cover.

Sounds good. Thanks! From what you're saying it seems like in order to remove the cover I'll have to first remove the Traverse release cam knob. Not a big deal once I get everything running smoothly.

I do not think knob removal is necessary. It should simply pull out.

I believe you are correct, that you could just pull it out. Although, I think if you do that you'd still have to take the knob off to put the cam back in place. If it works the way I think it does it would probably be easier to take the knob off first, and then the cam stays in the correct position. I'll have to play with it a little to figure out the best procedure. I'm just super excited to have the part!

Raise the pins out of the notch and rotate the gear slightly so the pins are riding out of the notch. Rotate the knob so the narrow part is 'in the gap'. The gap should be wider than the cam and it will slip out.
