New 10ER owner w/pics
Greetings all,
I am Ken from Cincinnati OH. I just bought a nice ShopSmith 10ER serial R44318 from craigslist for 'cheap'. This seems to be a very informative forum, and I look forward to learning about these machines.
The machine is in good shape, no rust anywhere, and everything seems functional. It is of course dirty, but I will give it a good cleaning.
Included in my purchase was a ton of paperwork and manuals. A listing of some of the literature:
-10ER owners guide
-ShopSmith "The New Handyman" booklet/catalog
-Model A-34 Jigsaw owners guide
-Shop Notes 1, 2, and 3
-joiner/shaper fence and joiner cutter instructions
-Shopsmith accesory catalog
-Montgomery Ward "Shopsmith purchase plan" pamphlet
-original blueprint for Shopsmith bench, 160-2
-Montgomery Ward "SawSmith" advertisement
-A.O. Smith motors service manual with service location directory
-various exploded view part diagrams
-Shopsmith Mark V owners manual (dated 1956)
-Shopsmith Mark V accessories catalog
-Service Bulletin No.156 (Mark V motor replacement)
-Sears/Craftsman handbook "The circular saw"
-Sears/Craftsman handbook "The joiner, shaper, and thickness planer"
-original Shopsmith 'speed finder' circular doohicky
-original Shopsmith warranty card (unused)
Also included was an assortment of attachments, saw blades, sanding discs, arbors, drill chucks, and misc items. I don't know what some of the stuff is, but I will play around with it and hopefully figure it out : )
Thanks for any insight and comments, and I hope the forum does not mind if I bother you all with questions when I get my 10ER up and running.
Regards, Ken

Thank you for the welcome John! After perusing some of the back pages here and exploring the wealth of information, I believe I have gotten in way over my head---again! A slippery slope and garage full of tools......john wrote:Ken:
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the purchase. I won't be of much help on the technical side but there are a lot of knowledgable people here who will be glad to.
Good luck with your "new" toy.
John

Ken,Glad to have you join us. I am sure that you will enjoy your visits here, and there are all sorts of helpful people. There is another site that caters to the 10E and 10ER models specifically. See post 4 of this thread https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=1847&highlight=10er to find that site.

Hey,
My name is Brandon and I am from a small town in TN. I just bought a 10ER from wy wife's uncle. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet. It came with a bunch of extras, most of them I have no idea what they are or where they go!! Hoping to learn as much as I can.

Welcome to the forum. I also reside in TN but when I checked where you are located, its like 331 miles between us. I have a 520 and don't know much about the 10 ER machines but there are several folks on this forum that do and are more than willing to give you help in what you may need. Also there is a users group in Yahoo that is specifically for 10 ER users and I am attaching the link to it. When it brings up the web page, the 10ER group is the 2d group listed. They are called Shopsmith10ER Users. Hope that helps.

FYI,
Shopsmith still sells copies of the user manuals and parts list for the 10ER's (item # 877082) for $12.17, but does not have parts. The info packet includes other stuff also. However you get them, you will definitely need them ASAP. Good luck with your restore projects.

ER's
Brandon you will love your ER. Got hooked on them several years ago from Skip that runs the ER group they are talking about. Come on over and join us also. I have up to seven ER's at one time. Down to five now. I use two all the time along with my 510. I also have a 62 Goldie I have been playing with. Email me anytime at wlhayes@cox.net and I will hook you up with any manual you might need. There are plenty of them floating around. Did you get the Jigsaw that goes with it . It really looks like a big horse shoe that mounts on top of the ER and uses the same table with an additional insert. Runs pretty smooth.
This is a great group and you will get a lot of information from them and some pretty neat plans and ideas.
Welcome
