Today parf vice (on the drawing board)

How do you like it in comparison with a conventional screw-actuated vise, Ed? It's obviously a lot lighter and more portable. More like a Zyliss vise in that regard.

Back in 2012 one of the Woodsmith etips was an "easy-to-build-vise" and I like the concept so I printed it out and put it in my "to build" note book. So this has been something that I think I want for a few years now.

Their version clamped to a bench and used screw clamps and while I still like that design. When I was watching the a fore mentioned video and saw this parf vice and I also like that version. What interested me was the fact that it was designed to be used on a MFT which I now have.

I like having option when woodworking. This will be another option. Right now my only true woodworking vice is on a workbench in the back of the garage and covered in storage, not convenient to use nor quick as I'd like and yes I'm working on getting it from storage table to work bench again.

I also have a B&D workmate which has been my more or less go to vice while working on projects in the driveway and I intend to continue to use it as well.

The MFT has the ability to use clamps to the side channels so that is also an option and almost dis-waded me from building this vice. I guess since I built it I guess you know which way I went.

I can not comment on how well it works yet because I have yet to use it for much other then testing the design. I can say that the Woodsmith vice and the parf vice have come from trusted sources and at least in concept it should work for what I need. But only time will tell.
