Jay Bates showing components in SketchUp + free pseudo CutList method

Post by benush26 »

This YT video shows how Jay Bates makes a cut list layout, but I think it demonstrates why making components of everything is useful in SketchUp. Note the ERROR caused when he doesn't make a component, then goes back to fix it. :p

This also has an interesting alternative to a cut list program, though without showing the actual kerf waste.

If this has already been posted, I apologize.

Be well,
Ben

What you see here is almost what I do for my cut list. I do how ever use the correct sizes for the plywood because I don't like to have a 1/32" error even before I start...... I also make a saw kerf box, now with my festool saw I use 2.3mm width of cut. Using the box gets me my spacing(kerf) and I end up with parts of the correct size. Again important to me.

I also like to take advantage of my layout time to figure how I want to cut the parts so I can come up with a plan as to cut order. For sheet goods I cut the long cuts first and then come back to the crosscuts if I can. It is a good time do the planning before you even get a saw out.
