It lives

Post by reible »

While going through my old stuff the other day I came upon an old ipod that I had set aside after it stopped working. It was working fine then one day it wasn't. I did some checking and did a reset and a few other tricks listed on the web but nothing got it working again. This must have been maybe 4 or 5 years back.

Well easter egg hunting told me the battery was now totally dead and might have been the issue even back when. Amazon had a replacement and it came with some plastic tools for opening the case. I don't recall the amount but about $8. Bad news it was coming from China and would take weeks to get here.

It got here, finally. I got the case open and got the new battery installed. Put it on the USB port of the computer and let it change overnight. Turned it on and it was working! Set the time and date, and tried a few songs..... I had long ago forgotten what was on it but it was fun to here those tunes again.

I've been using it the last few days just for old time sake. I didn't even remember the model or year but found it on the apple site. Back in the day having a 20 GB drive was a big deal......... at the time you could have gotten a 60GB but who needs all that space???

iPod with color display

Navigation: Click Wheel
Capacity: 20 and 60 GB
Model number and date introduced: A1099: 2005-06

iPod and iPod photo are now one and the same, with every white iPod boasting a full-color display. They continue to have the same controls as iPod (Click Wheel) but now all models have a color display like iPod photo—ideal for viewing album artwork and playing slideshows. These are considered fourth-generation models along with iPod (Click Wheel).

Anyway it lives again!

Now should I part with it or wait until it becomes an antique and worth something???

It is also interesting that while it is likely the battery was the issue even back then that the error codes and what not did not just say replace the battery but rather indicated it should be returned to apple to get fixed??? It is also interesting that if the battery were bad then why would it not even work when it was plugged in????
