Today in the shop (Rockler clamp-shopsmith fix)

When I got these clamps I had no idea how useful they would be. However the use that I got them for proved to be a bit of a disappointment. It turns out the screw portion aligns with the t-slot in the 520 rip fence.

I've been slipping a scrap block on that side to solve the issue.

But today I had some small scraps of the plastic cutting boards I buy at Sam's Club, enough to make a small fix. I drilled a hole then used a hole cutter to cut them out and then turned the outside smooth. This is what they look like:

The closest drill bit I had was a little oversized so it is a loose fit. Either I'll leave it that way or stick a small piece of double stick tape to hold it. I could actually buy a bit to fit but I don't know if that is really necessary.

While I was at it I wanted to see of the Matchfit also had this problem. Remember this:

If the circular base can rotate, could you grind two edges parallel to fit the t-slot? I presume there would be enough surface area left to work as a clamp on other surfaces.
My thought for fitting "in" the slot, was that the edge of that circular base looks precariously close to the slot, so matching the metal to span the opening (or sufficiently wide for covering as is the case with your pad) would not be a possible problem.

It's getting late after a LONG LONG day, so maybe I'm thinking all wrong. My apologies if this seems superfluous.

That's clever, Berry! Is the spacer cut to the T slot profile, and slides in, or is it just rectangular, held in by the clamps?

Just a rectangular piece of oak. I use it quite often, it was well worth digging it out of the pile and trimming it to fit.

I like both ideas but I must say the wood filler I like best.

Just about any scrap of wood will work providing it is not too thick.
