Wiring on an old 10ER

I've been slowly bringing an old 10ER (SN 89035) back to fighting trim, and I've taken a few pictures of the wiring along the way. Thought I'd take the opportunity to share some of what I'd found. The fellow I acquired it from said that it had "tripped the breaker" the last few times he used it. I'm not sure what's going on, everything looks OK to me...

The wiring on the plug end looks like it was tucked around the screw by a group of drunken squirrels...

They'd crimped terminals on the end of the wires to keep things neat, tidy, and in place.

The switch wiring insulation was showing a little copper...

But what you can't tell from this picture is that the nuts weren't as much as "tightened" on the terminals as they were put "next to" the terminals. I was able to unscrew both of these terminal nuts with the tip of my finger, didn't even have to use my thumb. Just spun the nuts off. Convenient! (The color of that top nut? Looks like it had gotten really warm at some point.)

So, anyone see any issues, or does this look like it should be good-to-go?

I wish I could say that I'd embellished some of this, but honestly, that's the way I got the thing.

One sacrificial 14-gua black extension cord from the local big-box store and a few ring terminals later, and the breakers don't pop no more. So far, so good. So far..

Looks like you have diagnosed and solved the primary wiring issues. I trust you replaced every wire, and connected a proper ground.
