Wooden Toy Car, Hot Rod, Ford 27 T Coupe

I made this one from MDF. Sprayed some primer on it to seal the MDF and painted the body with some Behr Oops paint from Home Depot. I added a little FlowTrol to the paint to help it flow better. The blue paint worked fine just as it is. The exhaust pipes and wheels I painted with flat acrylic craft paint. I don't think I'm going to use this paint again without a clear top coat. The hub are metallic gold craft paint with clear shellac on them.

It's a Ford EcoBoost with twin water cooled turbos.

I noticed the six pipes right of but that is what the pattern had. As it was I had problems with tear out between the holes while drilling that close together. I'm guessing that the designer had similar issues.

You could go with smaller dowels perhaps and fit in eight but it is a toy for children and above all you don't want to make it easy to break. The original design called for through holes. Smaller holes closer together makes drilling the holes and having them come out aligned perfectly becomes more difficult.

The body size is designed to fit a 2x4.

To be honest, I have been trying to design a header system I could do on the jigsaw that would dump at the rear wheels. Right now to many projects, but ....

I'd love to see it when you are done. I can't imagine how you would do this on a scroll saw.

Route a shallow slot where it mounts to the "hood" on the side
cut a block (rectangle) and drill holes for the jigsaw blade between each "pipe" and cut tear drop shapes for the space between the pipes, then in the y plane, jigsaw (or bandsaw) an arc out of the "back of the "pipes" to make the headers. You could also cut the "hood" off the car, make the pipes as one piece and sandwich them between the "hood" and the body.

Just spitballing, but it would be fun to try. I may try it this week.....
