out garage saling today and at the last garage I stopped at at a SS 10ER out front
looked it for a few minutes then looked at the other things they had.
when back a check over the 10ER - price tag of $35
the guy came over and talked about it. He said he used it for a drill press and that it was his dad's. He said he brought a drill press and did not need it any more.
Had the wife and daughter with me and the car was full of things.
Paid for it and said I will be back with me pick-up
the last pic if of the tool rest. Looks like it was home made. But should work okay.
I have been waiting about a year for a 10ER to show up in my area close by.
the 10 ER will be taken apart cleaned and repainted, and new bearings.
a few part are missing, but I plan on using it for lathe work and as a drill press.

Re: got a SS10ER
Thank you for saving one of these remarkable machines.
You have done well. Great price.
Someone a few years ago was complaining about eBay'ers who would buy Shopsmiths for salvage and part them out.
I pointed out then that if was not for folks who would take the time to rescue, salvage, disassemble, catalog, market, sell, pack and ship pieces all across the nation, we would have no sources for some parts last made 70 years ago, and those machines and parts would have been in a scrap metal yard and recycled into something else.
I am sure you will enjoy restoring it.

I need to get out to garage sales more often. Need to find a great deal like that. Enjoy.
