Shopsmith - Lathe adapters

Shopsmith - Lathe adapters
I recently purchased a used Shopsmith V that is in great shape and from what I can see has all of the original equipment and attachments, with the exception of the lathe faceplates. I see the Shopsmith original parts attach to the spindle with a setscrew but I'm wondering if there is any sort of adapter available that will allow me to use conventional screw on faceplates or chucks?

Third party chucks, yes. Face plates, why? SS makes face plates and SS face plates are on eBay ALL the time. Nova sells their SS adapter separately so I guess you could use it for a screw on face plate.Blair73 wrote:I recently purchased a used Shopsmith V that is in great shape and from what I can see has all of the original equipment and attachments, with the exception of the lathe faceplates. I guess I misspoke. I was more curious about it for a chuck. Even with exchange and shipping to Canada, ordering from SS is pretty reasonably priced and I already did order faceplates. Thanks for your guidance.

Re: Shopsmith - Lathe adapters
Pennstateindustries.com has the adapters you want. I have a few and they work well. There are times when they can be quite handy, especially if you are using a faceplate that Shopsmith does not offer, like one that works like a screw chuck. I have two such faceplates andlove them. I also swap equipment between non Shopsmith lathes. Can't do that without the adapter. I have four lathe chucks, and with the right adapter can use them on my Delta lathe, my Powermatic, or any one of my three Shopsmiths!
