Upper saw guard question

Post by cmn135 »

Hello everyone,

I'm slowly but surely figuring out all the parts I received with my shopsmith. There are a ton of miscellaneous parts i'm working through. One question I'm stuck on. My package came with 3 upper saw guards. I know the top one is the original see through 500 guard. My set has the 510 upgrade. I believe the bottom guard came with that. I have no idea what the third guard in the middle is for. Can anyone assist? I went through the various upgrade packages on the website and couldn't figure it out.

I don't think the center one is a shopsmith part.

It looks very much like one I have that was used on a Craftsman table saw. I agree, it does not look Shopsmith at all.

Thanks guys. One other question on the lower saw guard. The spring tension portion on the plastic guard....is that piece supposed to slide up and down fairly easily with pressure? Mine will move up and down but I have to push it pretty hard. I'm guessing it needs a good cleaning/servicing but I'm still getting a feel for all the parts.

Clean and then wax the rods the thing rides on. With the springs compressed it pretty easy to get your JPW on and off.
