Military Discount at Lowes

Post by jsburger »

This probably does not effect most military discount eligabls but maybe some.

We have two rentals in Sacramento. We have been buying the material for repairs from Lowes here in Utah and getting the contractor to pick up the material in Sac. The local store has verified my/wife's ID card and called the Lowes in Sac and placed the order so we get the 10% discount. Home Depot won't do this.

Today when my wife went to order some material from one of the stores in Sac. the lady asked for my retirement date. Not sure why that mattered but, she wanted to put it in the system so we could just call the store in Sac and get the 10% Military discount. Interesting, we will see what happens the first time we try calling a Sac store.

With Lowes current system, you should be able to get the military discount at any Lowes store simply by scanning your My Lowes card or giving them your phone number that is listed on your My Lowes account. If you don't already have a My Lowes account set up, it is very easy to do on their web site.

I have mine setup and I was at a store about an hour away yesterday buying a piece of shopsmith gear and it worked fine.

It was easy to setup online and took only a few moments. And it is for all vets not like before when it was only on special days or the stores discretion.

Works slick at every Lowes I've been to.
Some HD stores will honor a VA id, also.

The discount with the Lowes card is only 5% or 6 months no interest over $299.

The military discount is 10%. What I do with a large purchase is take the 10% military discount and put it on the card and get the 6 months no interest. You can not take the 10% military and the 5% on the card discount together but you can take the 10% military and the 6 months no interest together.

That's the Lowes charge card they call the Advantage Card. We are talking about the My Lowes Military discount card here.

OK, I get it now. I knew Lowes had extended the discount to all vets every day but I did not pay any attention to the MyLowes thing because I am retired and have an ID card. I wondered how it would work for vets that don't have an ID card showing service. The MyLowes card is just an ID showing military service not a credit card.

What the lady at the store was doing was putting the information in the system for my wife the same as doing it on line. All I had to do was go on line and request the card. That is why she said we could call the store in Sac and order directly and get the military discount.

Prior to this what we did was go in the local store here and the clerk would verify our military ID and then call the store in Sac and place the order for us to get the 10%.

Correct. The My Lowes card isn't a credit card. It is more of an ID card. If you register as a veteran, it identifies you as such and you can track your purchases online if you wish.
