Graduation Day in Iowa

Post by masonsailor2 »

This weekend I ended up in Fairfield Iowa attending a most interesting graduation ceremony of my godson at the Maharishi University School of Management. This school offers a variety of business management degrees with an interesting mix of transcendental meditation and eastern philosophy. At first it seemed an odd mixture but after being there for several days and meeting with faculty and students I left very impressed. Fairfield is a beautiful little town that is classic heartland. And then in the center of town we walked into a shop whose sign said collectibles. WOW. This guy has been collecting "stuff" for many years and has a very eclectic assortment that includes a pretty impressive military bayonet collection as well as a smattering of everything. He shares the shop space with a very nice electronics geek whose collection of old gaming boxes was very impressive. He not only collects them but also refurbishes them. I picked up a Nintendo box and all the Mario Bros. games for my wife who has been lamenting that she failed to get one of the reissued ones that went on sale recently. Now for the funny part. As I am going through TSA this morning ( I am currently in the air ) I asked the older gentleman and lady who were manning the checkpoint if there was any issue with it in my carry on and they both said no problem. But the guy operating the scanner looked to be about early to mid twenties. He pulled my bag aside after scanning for inspection. Upon inspection he wasn't sure what it was and was genuinely concerned until the older lady ( probably my age - mid sixties ) came over and started going over the history of gaming and telling him "that's the grandfather of the Xbox". He had no clue. It was very funny. Anyway a very interesting weekend. Thought I would share.

I wonder what the kid would have done if you had an old Western Electric dial desk phone. Or even better one with no dial.

Great story!!! :D

You don't see too many wood structures like that any more.

Nice graduation party .

Guess a phone patch would really give the kid a head ache.
