I should have done this years ago.
I finally got tired of the dust clogging up my filter.
The barrel is stave construction from some left over pine shelving I wanted to get rid of.
Here is the baffle, you can also see weather stripping I applied to the top of the barrel.
I used caulking on all of the internal joints to make sure it was air tight. It works!!
We'll see over time if I spend less time cleaning the filter. Nasty Job! If nothing else I have experience creating a staved barrel. Not for the feint of heart.

There is a good explanation of the process on the old original "Ben's Mill" video that was part of the Odyssey Project. Ben makes a wooden livestock watering tank using stave construction. You can Google the video.
I love that video. Maybe one reason I like it so much is that my paternal great grandfather owned, fully rebuilt and operated a water powered grist mill and a sawmill in a village about 12 miles east of here during the late 1800's. He also ran a small, wire and picket, fence factory on the same property. He also used to make most of the caskets used there. I now own about all of that 17 acre property and do most of my wood cutting there. My father used to accuse me of having sawdust in my veins.
I have always been a wood lover and at 75 I'm still planting trees. I'll keep planting as long as I can even though I will never see them mature. The planet cannot sustain if everybody can only think in terms of "take"... We have to pay back.

Cool project, those look like big chips.
Are you connecting the vac to the tablesaw? planer?
I'm trying to decide on a shopvac setup at the moment.

Cool way to make the container. I did the same with a 55gal drum and my HF dust collector. The Thein baffle system makes a huge difference in the dust collection.

Re: Updated Dust collection (Thein Baffle)
The chips in that barrel are actually from a hand plane used to slightly round off the sharp corners from the the stave construction. Just regular vacuuming of the shop floor. No reason a Jointer with dust collection would not work as well.
Re: Updated Dust collection (Thein Baffle)
Great little project! I love my Thein baffle and it captures a lot of stuff. At least for my high flow CFM, low pressure Dust collector, it must capture close to 99% of the dust before it ever reaches the filter.
Cheers,
John
