A small hint for Power Coupler users

I made a small change to my Power Coupler that helps:
I marked all the splines on the Power Coupler with a black line and the entire head stock end red. Now all it takes is a glace and I know which end is which and I can line up the splines easily.

This is a neat solution and an aid for setup BUT do your couplers not have a big red arrow pointing toward the headstock.

I have 3 couplers here of unknown vintage. Well one is from 1994 when I bought my then 510 new but I don't know which one. One is red but red on both ends (no help). The other two have no paint at all.

As for Brian's idea, by all means if it helps you then do it. The red end seems unnecessary to me. If you can remember the red end goes on the head stock why can't you remember that the end with the spring goes on the head stock? The spline position marks seem unnecessary as well. I put the coupler on the SPT first since there is no spring on that end and it stays. Just rotate is slightly as you push it on and the splines line up. Then I grab the head stock by the quill on the right side and slide left rotating the quill until the splines line up.

That's the way I do it. Spring to headstock and I get it right every time.

My two couplers are like John Burger's. Both plain white. But if you color the arrows with a black magic marker using a light touch the letters will remain white on a black foreground color

I guess I am missing something. It will only go on the accessory one way (4 splines), the other end has 5 splines. Doesn't leave you much choice except getting it oriented correctly before you start to install.

I believe that was the point of Brian's original point.

spring side to head stock and line accessory up first and it is a easy one to fix lol sides me color blind
