Too blasted hot here to be outside. Shop is cool till around three pm. When the sweat starts dripping on to my glasses, I hang it up for the day.
Spent the last week on Lake Powell and at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. With some of Phyl's family. Lots cooler at 8-9 thousand feet. Some of the extended family came here for a while. Friday, they'll leave for Chicago land and points south. Don't envy them the drives nor the humidity. Yesterday, it was over 90 with over 90% humidity in central IL. That's brutal!
They are enjoying our 86 and 20%. It'll get to 95 here in a few hours, though.

Gene, that does sound too hot. Don't like it when sweat drips down on my glasses. We have been having some pretty warm temps (much warmer than normal) here for the last week, until yesterday and today. Supposed to heat up again and get to a little over 90 tomorrow.

Two plus weeks ago my shop swamp cooler died of heat stroke! 
Seriously! I usually turn it off at night but forgot and it kept on cycling on and off until 1 am and then started again about 9 am. By the time I decided to get back out there, the water was gone and the motor had fried! I don't know the real cause and effect reason the motor died, but I'm calling it heat stroke.
The house AC doesn't turn off until 1 or 2 am and then back on about 9. Luckily it doesn't depend on me for a water supply!
When Mike Young was here last week, I stopped and BSd with him for about 4 hours. In that time Lowe's had 4 window units sold (they were right in front of Mike's booth - Lowe's got a new manager a month or so back and stuck him in a HORRIBLE location). One of the workers who remembers Mike from previous shows said that Lowe's was selling an average of 9 AC units a day, all the portable units had sold out over two weeks ago and they were back ordered on any units (except the professionally installed ones) until September!
Record snow fall this winter and now nearly three weeks of 90+ days. Helena is starting to be more like HELL-ena. The legislature is done for the year so I can't blame it on the politicians.
No used swamp coolers available on CL so the shop stays unoccupied for the time being. Yes, I know I could get up early in the morning to do things, but what's the fun of being retired if I have to start getting up early again?!

When I built my shop, 20 years ago, I made a few mistakes. Chief among them was building it too small. But, one thing done right was plenty of insulation.
At the time of the build, I was working at a location where a large school building was being demolished. I had built a bunch of cabinets for the guy doing the demo so, it was no problem getting the batt insulation from the demo.
The walls of the shop are of full 2"x6" timbers and were stuffed full. As was the ceiling.
At the time, I was concerned about warmth and it does stay warm with minimal fuel usage. Even at 0, which happens rarely. But, our summer nights average around 65-70 and so, the shop stays moderately cool until around 3 PM or so when the outside temps usually reach 100. But, it's a dry heat. A commercial 36" floor fan helps, too.
