DC3300 Motor Over Heats

My DC3300 motor overheats and will not restart until it cools. I have sent the motor to a reputable motor shop and they set the points and checked the motor out and said it was in good condition. The motor has very few hours on it, but unfortunately is not under warranty. Have any of you had a similar problem with the DC3300?

Nope. Have you tried blowing out the housing with an air compressor?

Do you have an amprobe? It's possible that you somehow are overloading the motor. A strong indication of this would be an amperage draw larger than the nameplate rating.

Some people have trouble with this induction motor characteristic, but if you open up the intake or otherwise increase the air flow, the motor will overload. Restricting the air flow decreases the load.

Low voltage can also cause a motor to overheat. Another thing to consider is the fact that modern motors have a temperature rise of 55 degrees C over ambient. this can easily make the surface of the motor too hot to touch. However, if the amperage is within the nameplate rating you are OK.

Is there an air flow adjustment or is that built into the physical design?

If the motor is running hot, isn't that an absolute indication that it is either drawing more current than intended - or- than there is NO effective cooling?
