I don't have a Shopsmith, I worked for shopsmith back in 75-77.
It was a time of rapid growth for the company. We went from an older than dirt heavy timber beam type building on N Second St in Tipp City, Ohio. To a probably 5x larger brand new building on Center Drive in Vandailia, Ohio about 10-15 miles south on the North side of Dayton, Ohio.
Most of our machines were made from the old Magna Tool cast iron early Shopsmiths and second hand machinery from the NCR corp as they were phasing out their mechanical cadh registers. We had a hand full of custom machines. Multiple spindle gang drills, the belt sander that finished the table saw surfaces and the machines that broched the keyway, bored, reamed and burnished the the I.D. of the pully-V shives.
I wondering if any of you folks have and still use Mark5s from the mid 70s. If so, how have the pully-Y shives held up. The reason I ask is, after the move move to center drive. They opened the acceptable amount of vibration on the completed headstock assy. None of us on the shop floor liked the change. The change allowed they to get more headstocks through the hot test of the head stock before final assy and packaging.
I have all ways wondered how the pully-V shive bearing bronze center bushing sleeve with the above mentioned bore held up to the additional vibration?
