Band saw tire woes

The band saw I picked up this summer had the urathane tires on it so I thought 'Awsome, just clean up the aluminum table and the little bit of rust it had and let's use it".
Used it to trim a few small pieces a couple days ago, no problems. Use it today to do the same and the upper tire starts sliding off the wheel. Damm thing is so loose I can spin it on the wheel with two fingers but it's diameter is small enough to keep it from jumping off the lip entirely.
They were upgrades but no idea when they were put on.

Replaced the tires on my other bandsaw a couple years ago and know that those were tight to the wheels at the time and dont notice anything different now.

Anyone experience stretching in their upgrades? It's either that or the tires came out of a bad batch.

I might just try the rubber tires next time they are on special.

I maybe an old guy but I still like and prefer the rubber tires.

There was period of time when the tires distributed by Shopsmith were larger than spec'd. It might be worthwhile to give Customer Service a call. You may have some of those 'misfits'.

Ok, received much rubber replacement bandsaw tires. Got them on the wheels. Now these are much tighter to the wheels than the ones coming off. And appear to be tighter the the urathane tires on my other bandsaw.

Has anyone ever used the rubber tires but not glued them down? Just curious.

If instructed to apply them with glue why would you not do that?

Quaifier: No, I have had no experience with replacing band saw tires. I have two band saws and they are both older vintage Shopsmith machines with "hard rubber" tires. I have had no tire problems and see no evidence that I might in the near future.

I will hazard a guess.

The rubber will take a set and loose it's tension and eventually slip. Then it might be too late to glue.
