I hope that those of you that think of lawyers as shysters NEVER, NEVER need a good lawyer.

Dusty that is an oxymoron.
We have the TV on this morning every advertisement break has had at least one and in many cases two lawyer cases. One brags they just got a guy $200,000 settlement. The other brags that he is a bull dog and won't let go until makes the person regret what happened to their client. Another is fighting for legalized drugs. Another says if you are in an accident and even if you do not have pain now you should sue because you may have pain in the future. Another complains that they aren't allowed to say the defendant has insurance, but in fact most do so you aren't hurting the person you getting your money back from the "big" insurance companies.

This situation with Sawstop is excellent example of what is the true motivation behind this push.
Is it Saw safety? No not really, if it were you would not block others attempts to Saw safety.
You're casting a mighty wide net there, Ed. While "shysters" certainly do exist, and are definitely over-represented on the airwaves, I believe them to be the exception rather than the rule.

I've worked with a fair number of lawyers during my business career, and in dealing with my parents' estates. Without fail, they were upstanding, ethical, and helpful. Their sound advice may well be the reason that I've never had to deal with the "other" kind of lawyer. My most recent contact with a lawyer was at my son's Eagle Scout review meeting last week -- he is an assistant scoutmaster, who gives unselfishly of his time to help develop fine young men.

Does the existence of a few sleazy televangelists mean that all preachers are self-serving hypocrites?

Yes you are right there are good and decent lawyers. I know a few and many regret the state of our civil, estate, and criminal laws.

Most if not all civil, estate, criminal law was written by lawyers that were not trying to put themselves out of business.

Yes there are sleazy televangelist but unlike lawyers, preachers were not given to power to make civil laws that require you to use or defend yourself from them.
