This year I tried using bamboo stakes for the tomatoes ,for the most part it worked pretty good , I used 3 per plant about 6 ft long then tied string around them to support them and keep the plants inside . bamboo isn't really a problem, I found a patch growing wild along the road,,,, all I have to do is cut it down and haul it home,,best part is ,, it is free,,.
My parents still use wire frame cages.
Friend of ours uses pvc tubing and made cages like he seen on youtube, any one else have a favorite kind of tomato propagation.

I've always used the old wire hoops. I plant only the non-hybrid tomatoes that remain a quite small plant and so are easy to contain. They seem to produce more reliably than the hybrids which often grow like trees and don't want to set fruit.

My wife uses offcuts from the shop, usually maple or oak. When I rip down parts for cabinet face frames I usually end up with sticks 3/4 x 1/2 to 1" and up to 8 feet long. They last a couple of years and then she comes back to the shop for more.

I made rewire cages and still some times need to put in t-posts to keep them up. Indeterminate tomatoes grow quite large in my garden.
