Not really. You will actually increase the suction. However dust collection is all about air flow not suction. By reducing the hose size you reduce the air flow (CFM). Not good For dust collection. The way to help reduce the problem is run the 4" hose all the way to the machine and make the reduction right at the machine.

Re: Dust collectors
Thanks for the info i did that and still doesn't seem to get much sawdust in the bag have more on the floor after ripping some boards.
Re: Dust collectors
You did not say what you are hooking the dust collector to. Remove the dust collector completely and run the machine. You might be surprised how much more dust is on the floor.UncleRandall wrote:Thanks for the info i did that and still doesn't seem to get much sawdust in the bag have more on the floor after ripping some boards.

Re: Dust collectors
Had it hooked to my ss using table saw
Re: Dust collectors
I did a series of video on the dust issue while ripping, the post is here:
http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/gener ... 20375.html
It is pretty clear that it still leaks but it is better then nothing.
I have more to do on this but I did show one small improvement that is easy to implement. More will follow when and if I get the time to work on it. I have some ideas that have previously been posted that I will incorporate.
