Lets See Those Clamp Storage Ideas

Post by mbcabinetmaker »

I am planning to build a portable clamp storage unit for all my non pipe clamp clamps. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I had the OSB on hand so I used it. Had to purchase some Big Box store tuba fours. I had the casters also, so I'm about $15 dollars into this.

This is a reduced and modified version of this, as I was not inclined to purchase the EMT, I used 2 x 4s for the stretchers.

I also don't typically keep full panels for long so halving it made sense for me. a 4 x 8 sheet will work on there and I may even try use a straight edge with my battery operated Porter Cable circular saw as a poor man's panel saw.

Here's mine. Until this point, I had them vertically in a garbage can and finding the little ones meant dumping the whole thing on the floor. It's just a few pine boards screwed together. and is mounted to the wall about three feet from my workbench.

Wow that ultimate rack is HUGE

I'm planning something around 24" square. I have some clamp hangers that I ordered from Rockler and those will determine final dimensions. I have all kinds of clamps to store so I want to get all the ideas that I can before starting the design.

this is what I have. Small shop so, cant use a clamp cart.

Notice the orange clamps just hook into the bracket. No, need to screw

and unscrew to use them.

I have a large shop, 30' X 40'. I have no desire to have a mobile clamp cart. What for? I do all my clamping in the same area. Mine hang on the wall in a central area close to the work benches. There is a lot more wall space than floor space. Works for me.

Well John wall space in my shop is prime real-estate. The main part of my shop is 30 x 60 but I do have four 9' doors in the front and front and rear entry doors along with a 42" door going into the back addition. I prefer to have my machines along the walls for the most part and with years of thing collected (some of them actually clamps) I have no wall space left. I built a rolling cart a couple of years ago for my pipe clamps and it works out great. Just roll it over to the bench and clamp away. Cuts way down on walking. With my new lay out because of the lift table bench I now have to walk all over the shop or dig in drawers for my other clamps. For me the only option is another rolling cart of some type. Its taking some planning but I am almost to a starting point.
