MDF
I want to get 1/4" mdf to make templates, but Lowes, HD, Menards, nor either of my local lumber yards carry it. I wondered if anyone had ideas? Maybe someone purchases it on-line and it's ok. I'm concerned about what shape such an order would arrive in. Thanks for reading!
Re: MDF
You might buy the MDF core plywood Menards sells. It would cost more because of the wood veneer surface, but if you really want MDF, that would get it for you.
Or, you could use the old standby hardboard panels. I much prefer working with it over MDF.

Re: MDF
For 1/4" 'thinness' I would prefer HDF. I do not know where to find that either. I do not have much faith in MDF tensile strength when thin.

Re: MDF
The local HD carries it in less than full sheet sizes, though I seriously doubt you would want to take a road trip to Montana this close to winter.berry wrote:I want to get 1/4" mdf to make templates, but Lowes, HD, Menards, nor either of my local lumber yards carry it. However, my HD allows free delivery to their store with a $45 purchase. Could you make up an order of MDF and other things to get to that $45 mark?
Be well,
Ben
Re: MDF
This is interesting as I was in Lowe's the other day and was going to pick up a 2' x 4' by 1/4" piece and the place they use to have it did not have any. I just figured they were out of it. When I checked online they don't show it anymore either.
I too use it for templates. The brass set I have will not work on the 1/4" plywood or the product they call hardboard which listed as 1/4" is not (more like a 3/16"). This could be an issue in the future.
I think we need to keep an eye out for a source and share that information if someone finds one.

There stuff doesn't work for me. That is why I have been getting it at Lowe's.

Re: MDF
My local HD has it in 2' x 4' sheets. Since it is carried locally I can not see if it could be delivered to a local store. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Medium-Densi ... /202089069

Re: MDF
The shortest barrels on router guides that I have seen are 7/32" that is .218" most are longer with typical being more in the area of .240" to .233" so the material thickness matters, .216" is too thin.

Re: MDF
Again, 0.216 is not 1/4"!
