Paint color question??

I have a project that I want to paint with spray paint and have it be the like the darkest blue, like almost black, what color blue would that be? Think of rustoleum brand since many stores sell that here.

Looking at the charts I can't really tell.... I wish it was something like blue-black or black-blue but no such luck.

Don't they have a "navy blue" and black? I'd mix them, start with a light coat of the blue followed by the black. Adding additional coats. Start with a test piece.

Rustoleum has a midnight blue, but I presume you know about it and it is still too light. If you are willing to pay about $20 for 16 ounces in a rattle can, head to a nearby NAPA and ask their paint guy to mix you a single shot (as compared to base coat clear coat) of the darkest blue black that meets your needs.

The Ace store near me will custom mix samples, also. They'll give me a small container to try, too. That's good because, it never looks the same at home as it does in the store.

Wow! I did not know NAPA still did that. Back in the 70's my buddy worked at NAPA he mixed me a 1/2 gallon ( I think ) of the paint for my truck. He then pumped it into very high quality spray cans. He did over pressure each can.
I think we had 6 cans when we finished. I prepped the truck and then with two people to shake cans, I painted the whole truck. I sprayed and others shook cans I traded cans about every 1 or so and painted so I overlapped wet. I turned out nearly perfect. No one could tell i painted it with spray cans. One high dollar professional car painter called me a liar until my wife confirmed to him that I had indeed painted the truck with spray cans.

Two things the empty spray cans already have the propellant and thinner in them. They have high quality nozzles and they can pump in any color paint you want. My Buddy mixed my paint according to NAPA charts to match my Chevy truck color. It was a perfect match.

Yea I don't want to spend that much on a custom color so I found a can of the midnight blue (satin) but it is too cold to do any testing. Maybe in a few days???

Looking at the top it is still pretty blue when viewing in a lighted area. It still might work but if it comes out the same as the top then it still will not be the color I was looking for but it sill might work if I don't look to hard at it.

The other color I had on hand was called satin classic navy which I spayed over a black undercoat, and over a gray undercoat, can't tell the difference in the finished part. Not sure the undercoat makes any difference in this case. And again it is more blue then I hoped for.

I do have real spray guns but they are messy and take the extra time for cleaning so I have dismissed using them. I guess the smaller touch-up gun could be used without too much effort but for now I'm more inclined to use a rattle can.

Probably putting too much effort into this that will not be warranted in the end.

Thanks for your efforts so far and yes I'm still open to other ideas for now.
